CHAPTER 15

“Well, we lucked out on the traffic,” Matt said. “Think this means you pop for coffee time. By my watch we’ve got forty-five minutes until our appointment with Mickey Lawrence.”

“Good,” Arthur said. “I could use a cup after that drive. I looked up his building location last night on the internet, and there’s a Starbucks on the ground floor. While we’re there, you can tell me what you’re doing about your upcoming wedding, assuming we get everything taken care of.”

A few minutes later after they’d picked up their coffee and sat down, Arthur looked at Matt and said, “Okay, shoot.”

“Did you talk to Dani last night?” Matt asked.

“No, should I have?”

“Just curious. I had a long talk with her, and the Max winery woman said they do a lot of weddings at the winery. There’s a gazebo where we can get married as well a greenhouse, so a bouquet for Briana won’t be a problem. We’re going to have the wedding the day after the fundraising event. After the ceremony, which will be conducted by you, we’ll all go out to lunch at one of Thomas Keller’s restaurants.

“Dani knows him personally and said that shouldn’t be a problem. She was going to call him today. She took Anna shopping after school yesterday and they bought dresses for all of them to wear to the wedding, including Briana’s.”

“Dani took Anna with her? That was pretty risky. Isn’t she afraid Anna will tell Briana about it?” Arthur asked as he set his cup back down on the table.

“I asked the same thing but Dani told me they had made a ‘pinky promise.’”

“What in the devil is that?”

“From what Dani told me, and believe me, that was something I’d never heard about, she and Anna hooked their little fingers together and then said some rhyme which is supposed to seal the deal.”

“Are you serious? That hardly sounds like the Dani Rosetti that was a star chef on television. Where did Anna or Dani come up with that?”

“I’m totally serious. She told me that one of Anna’s friends in school is Japanese and everyone does it in Japan, so Dani did it.”

“Guess the learning curve is pretty high when you take on a pseudo-mothering job for the niece you didn’t know you had,” Arthur said.

“Guess so, but Dani seems to be thriving on it, and if I might say so, you’re doing a pretty good job of pseudo-uncling her, even if you and Dani are just friends.”

“Thanks. Quite frankly, I’ve never had more fun in my life, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so smitten with anyone before. Although I don’t know if being a pseudo-uncle and being smitten even makes sense.”

“You know, Arthur, if I’ve learned one thing in this time I’ve been on earth, it’s that not everything does make sense. I just call those things IIWII.”

“IIWII? That’s a new one. What does that mean in English?”

“It means ‘It Is What It Is.’ And quite frankly, I’ve found a lot of those things.
